The Story Behind Hunter Douglas

Founded in 1963 in Wenden-Altenhof, Hunter Douglas began with a simple mission: to design better ways of living through innovation and craftsmanship. For over 30 years, Hunter Douglas UK has been known for its award-winning aluminium bifold and sliding doors, trusted by architects and homeowners around the world.

Every product we create reflects our belief in timeless design, lasting quality, and seamless everyday experiences. Now, we’re expanding that vision by introducing a new category: track-guided blinds (commonly known as zip blinds), beginning this exciting chapter right here in Singapore.

Got Questions About Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds?

We design Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds for people who care about the little things. People who believe great design should make life better, last for years, and bring comfort and ease into daily living.

Whether it’s a balcony, patio, or outdoor extension of your home, Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds is made for those who value quality, comfort, and thoughtful details.

Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds are designed with performance in mind. Our standard perforated fabrics help block out heat and harsh sunlight, while limiting airflow, so cool air stays in, and the space stays comfortable even in Singapore’s heat.

If you’re looking to create a more enclosed feel with minimal airflow, we also offer non-perforated fabric options. Just let us know what you need, and we’ll recommend the best setup for your space. (Additional charges may apply.)

Yes, Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds can remain fully lowered or fully retracted during windy conditions. However, we do not recommend leaving them in a partially open position, as this can make the system more susceptible to wind loads.

When operating the blinds on windy days, we recommend doing so with care. For smoother operation, you may gently guide the bottom bar while lowering the blind.

To minimise the effects of wind pressure and suction, it is also a good idea to close nearby doors, windows, or other openings that may create cross-ventilation before operating the blinds. Reducing airflow around the system can help ensure smoother operation and optimal performance.

Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds are designed to perform well in Singapore’s weather conditions. They provide excellent protection against light to moderate rain and help reduce the amount of rain entering your balcony or outdoor space, keeping the area more comfortable and usable.

During heavy rain with strong winds, some water may still pass through, especially with perforated mesh fabrics. This is a natural characteristic of breathable outdoor materials, which allow airflow while still providing UV protection and weather protection.

Even with 100% blockout fabric, no outdoor blind system is completely watertight in all weather conditions. During severe weather, water may still enter through corners, side gaps, or areas exposed to wind-driven rain.

Yes, but with a little care!

Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds can significantly improve the comfort of your outdoor space by providing shade, reducing glare, helping to keep insects out, and offering excellent protection against wind and rain.

That said, we generally recommend using outdoor-grade furniture where possible, as it is specifically designed for balcony and outdoor environments. If you prefer to use indoor furniture, consider materials that offer some level of water resistance and avoid pieces that may be easily affected by occasional exposure to the elements.

With the right furniture choices, Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds can help transform your balcony into a comfortable and inviting extension of your living space.

Not at all. The headrail and side channels are made from high-grade architectural aluminium, finished with a textured powder coating, ensuring long-term durability and rust-free performance, even in Singapore’s humid weather.

Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds are designed as a fully motorised system and do not feature a manual override.

This intentional design helps achieve a cleaner appearance while reducing the number of moving parts within the system.

Like any motorised product, components may eventually require servicing or replacement after many years of use. With Hunter Douglas, you can have confidence knowing that support is always available to help keep your system operating smoothly and performing as intended.

Yes, light creases are completely normal and are part of the fabric’s natural characteristics and will not affect the performance of the product.

From time to time, the fabric may develop light creases or marks after being kept rolled up for an extended period. These are most commonly seen near the edges. They will typically become less noticeable once the blind is lowered and allowed to hang naturally. As the fabric relaxes, it will gradually settle back into its natural shape.

Over time, exposure to UV, heat, and wind may also cause the fabric to expand and contract, resulting in light creases or ripples.

We offer a 5-year warranty on the motor and mechanism, along with a 2-year labour warranty.

Fabric warranties vary depending on the range you choose, but all come with a limited warranty against manufacturing defects.

Please note: Different fabrics may carry different warranty terms and price points based on their material and performance. (Speak with our team to learn more.)

Fabric creasing or sagging is not covered under warranty, as it may develop over time due to weather exposure, environmental conditions, and normal wear and tear.

However, if the issue is caused by a manufacturing or measurement defect, Hunter Douglas will assess the product and provide the appropriate resolution. These types of issues are typically evident shortly after installation.

When installed correctly and within the recommended size limits, the system is designed to maintain proper fabric tension and alignment.

Yes. Within the warranty period, any defective PowerView® or Somfy motor will be replaced with a new motor under warranty, ensuring minimal disruption and a seamless experience.

The maximum size depends on the total surface area and the fabric selected.

For standard configurations using thicker polyester fabrics (commonly used in Singapore), the recommended maximum height is up to 6,000mm. Beyond this, the bottom bar may sit slightly lower. This is because the headrail is intentionally designed to remain compact and discreet, without adding unnecessary bulk to the system.

The recommended maximum width is 4,700mm. Larger widths may be possible depending on the application. If your project requires a wider span, speak with a Hunter Douglas specialist to explore the available options.

Yes. Hunter Douglas Zip Blinds can be integrated with a wide range of smart home systems.

For customers using PowerView® Automation, the system can be connected to various smart home platforms depending on the ecosystem being used.

For projects that require alternative motorisation solutions, wired or wireless Somfy motors can also be specified where appropriate.

If you have a specific smart home platform in mind, a Hunter Douglas specialist can advise on the most suitable integration options for your project.

Both Somfy® and PowerView® Automation are highly reputable and reliable motorisation solutions, and there is no single answer as to which is “better”. The right choice depends on your priorities and how you intend to use the system.

PowerView® Automation is Hunter Douglas’ proprietary motorisation platform, designed with a strong focus on the overall user experience. From the app interface to day-to-day operation, every aspect is developed to work seamlessly with Hunter Douglas window coverings. Many homeowners appreciate its intuitive controls, refined user interface, and quiet operation, making it particularly well-suited for lifestyle-focused living spaces.

Somfy® is a global leader in home automation and motorisation, offering a wide range of motor options for different applications. With a broader selection of solutions available, it is often chosen for projects that require specific control methods, or integration preferences.

For most homeowners, both systems will provide reliable performance and excellent everyday convenience. The choice often comes down to whether you value the refined user experience offered by PowerView® Automation or require a motorisation solution with a wider range of options to suit specific control, integration, or project requirements.
